How Fast Was He Going? [Like Whoa]

Google Reader Feed - Tue, 12/23/2008 - 1:00pm

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be the "other" guy on the autobahn? Watch this clip to find out.

We're not sure how fast he was going, but the driver taking the video was traveling over 90 MPH. Any guesses as to what that black streak was?

Lasonic and Rap-Up team for the Limited Edition i931 boombox

Google Reader Feed - Thu, 12/11/2008 - 5:00pm

Lasonic's iPod dock masquerading as a ghetto blaster is nothing we haven't seen before, but the new Limited Edition i931 with Rap-Up branding... well, it's so "fabulous" we couldn't resist. Weighing in at about 25 pounds, this behemoth boasts two 12-inch speakers, it docks and charges your iPod, and it's going to look semi-fly doing it, too. It's also got an AM/FM tuner, EQs, an alarm clock -- you know, the works. This hulking "high performance portable music system" is destined to make you nostalgic for a simpler time of miniscule MP3 players with teensy little earbuds. It's $189 and available now.

Jeep Runs Over Mattress, Develops "Shimmy" From Mass Of Wires, Cords Attached To Drivetrain [Offbeat News]

Google Reader Feed - Wed, 12/10/2008 - 9:00pm

What happens when a Jeep drives over a mattress? An Escher-like hellscape of cord and wires that didn't stop the Jeep for 30 miles and only when the wires finally punctured the fuel tank.

The following stunning display of driver ignorance is making the rounds in a number of fan-boy forums across the internet: a Jeep owner mowed over a mattress and decided to press forward. Only after his vehicle stalled due to lack of fuel after 30 miles did he decide to contact the dealer and see what the matter might be. What unfolds can only be described as an Escher-like hellscape.

The amalgamation of cord and wires that used to be a mattress wound itself around the driveshaft and rear axle, creating a deadly whip that gashed it's way through the gas tank. The draining of his precious fuel, not the terrible shaking, is what ultimately brought the owner into the dealer. We would've loved to be part of the laugh-fest that surely took place at said dealer after this mess rolled in. The text of the email is located below for your enjoyment.

This guy ran over a mattress and decided to keep going. The ensuing jumble finally whipped around enough to put a tear in the gas tank,
the subsequent lack of fuel is what finally brought this vehicle to its knees.

It had still managed to drive 30 more miles decently with a 60lb tangle wrapped around the driveshaft.

This genius complained that the vehicle had a "shimmy" when
driving it high speeds.

Hat tip to BJ!

Dubai Prince Gifts Island To Michael Schumacher [Michael Schumacher]

Google Reader Feed - Wed, 12/10/2008 - 5:00pm

Are you having a tough time this Christmas season picking out the perfect gift for that special someone that has everything? Well, instead of heading down to the local Neiman Marcus store, or even buying a mere skyscraper, Dubai’s crown prince bought the retired Michael Schumacher his own island.

Dubai’s crown prince, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (phew!), bought the former F1 star his own piece of "The World."

Situated off the coast of the United Arab Emirates, "The World" is a grouping of man-made islands developed to look like a map of the Earth. Valued at roughly $7 million, Schumacher’s island will be located in the southern hemisphere, part of the "Antarctica" island cluster, when completed in a few years, presumably before the Michael Schumacher World Champion Tower in Abu Dhabi is completed.

We’re wondering how long it’ll take to see a track of some sort on it. We’ll be scouring Google Earth until we know. [uk.sports.yahoo.com]

Easy Cheese vs Cheez-it

Google Reader Feed - Tue, 12/09/2008 - 5:00pm
I’m pretty sure (though could be wrong) that Easy Cheese was the only cheese in a can before Cheez-It tried it’s hand at the can. Both products are dispersed in the same way, are labeled as “Pasteurized Cheese Snack” and also claim to be made with real cheese. All three of the characteristics are usually a [...]snackgirl

Venice under water

Google Reader Feed - Wed, 12/03/2008 - 9:00pm
The recent "acqua alta" (high water) in Venice, Italy reached a depth of 1.56 meters (5 ft, 1 in.) on Monday - the deepest flood in 22 years, and the fourth highest flood level in recent history, claimed Venice's Tide Center. The water began to subside on Tuesday, while residents and tourists made their way through the city, hip-waders or not - one man even took the opportunity to ride his wakeboard through Piazza San Marco (until police stepped in). Although this flood was severe enough for the mayor to ask tourists to temporarily stay home, Venetian floods are fairly routine, several occurring every year, and residents usually take it all in stride. Tourists take photos of each other in the flooded Piazza San Marco in Venice December 1, 2008. Large parts of Venice were flooded on Monday as heavy rains and strong winds lashed the lagoon city, with sea levels at their highest level in 22 years. Ferry and water taxi services in the city were suspended and Venice's mayor urged people to stay indoors. Tourists and residents struggled to get across the city over raised walkways. The Centro Maree, which forecasts water levels, said sea levels in the Adriatic rose 1.56 meters (5.1 ft) - a level not seen since 1986. (REUTERS/Manuel Silvestri) (author unknown)

Snake Survives A Week In Air Conditioner Fan [Offbeat News]

Google Reader Feed - Wed, 11/26/2008 - 5:00pm

80-year-old goat breeder Noel Padgham took her car into the shop after living for a week with a noise she described as "clunketer, clunketer, clunketer." When air-conditioning mechanic Kit Carson (no we're not kidding) opened up the dash to take a look, he probably didn't expect to find a three foot, four inch carpet python curled up in the ventilation systems fan.

The snake had been whirling around inside the fan and the tip of its tail had been dangling out, hitting against the housing and making the noise. Carson took the snake to the vet where the tip had to be amputated, but aside from being a couple inches shorter the snake is fine and expected to make a full recovery. Carson is expected to visit the local clothier for a fresh pair of pants.
